Originally from Scotland, Haz. began experimenting with music in the early 1990’s using an old Atari computer and vintage synths. From the outset, his music has been characterized by a strong melodic sense and emotional pull, combined with galloping rhythms and hypnotic arrangements.
After emigrating to Australia’s East Coast, Haz. looked for ways to capture the ambient sounds of his new home. Bird song, lapping waves and crackling bonfires can be heard buried deep in the mix. With time, Haz. moved away from a synthesized, programmed sound towards one that was more textured and organic, in the process incorporating real instruments like acoustic and electric guitars and vocal harmonies.

During 2009, Haz. concentrated full time on music while living and traveling in New Zealand. In a small farmhouse on the Otago Peninsula, the EP “Above the Tree Line” was formed.
His music has been described as having a strong sense of place, transporting listeners to the landscapes he loves: distant hills, wild seas, glacial streams in mountain gullies, the complex smells and sounds of ancient forests. His signature sound is at once accessible, evocative and uplifting.
